Historic photo of John, Robert Kennedy stolen from Kells Irish pub returned

This historic photo of John and Robert Kennedy stolen from Kells Irish Pub over the St. Patrick's Day weekend.

A photograph of President John Kennedy and brother Robert taken from Kells Irish Pub over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend has been returned.

Employees of the Irish-themed pub and restaurant noticed the photo missing on Sunday. On Tuesday, owner Lucille McAleese offered a $1,000 reward for its safe return.

Earlier today, a man walked into the pub carrying the photograph, saying a friend had taken it. He did not ask for the reward.

“He brought it back in a black garbage bag,” McAleese said by phone Wednesday. “It’s just a big part of Kells, and I’m glad it’s back.”

The photograph, taken in the 1960s, has hung on the Irish pub’s wall for more than 20 years.
