‘Bag Day’ at the Irish Pub, ‘No Bag, No Booze’ A tradition that started over 25 years ago

What: Bag Day

Where: The Irish Pub, St James and the Boardwalk

When: March 18

Time: All day into the night

The Skinny: Bag Day started over 25 years ago after a St Patrick’s Day celebration at the Irish Pub.

Catherine Burke Irish Pub owner explains that a group of Irish Pub employees and casino employees were lamenting that they had to work on St Patty’s Day and missed the entire holiday. As they were discussing this an Irish Pub bartender was taking some paper bags and he, his wife and some friends were making funny hats out of them and that sparked the idea that on March 18 every year a new holiday was created, Bag Day. For the 24 hours of Bag Day patrons had to wear a bag on the head, not over their face, simply sitting on top of their head. No Bag, No Booze. Today if you do not have your own bag, you will receive one as you enter.

Tip: This event rivals St Patricks Day at the Irish Pub and with Bag Day on Sunday this year the crowds could be huge. People start arriving as early as 7 a.m.
