It’s the Month O’ The Irish. Well, the Irish-Americans, that is. We’ve previously brought you A Month of Oatmeal and 29 Ways to Indulge in Chocolate, so in honor of Irish American Month, we’ve searched the town for its greatest Irish bevvies and the best spots to grab an after. Get bolloxed with an Arthur or check out a Cajun version of a classic at one of Houston’s best chippers. No idea what I’m talking about? Blarney – neither do I!

Thu. Mar. 1: Celebrate the oncoming weekend with some darts and a homemade pizza at Kenneally’s Irish Pub. Their Shamrock Special, topped with cheese, shrooms, onions, bell peppers & corned beef, is a customer fave!
Fri. Mar. 2: Check out the latest flick at downtown’s Sundance Cinemas and grab a post show night-cap at Birraporetti’s. Dubbed “a great Italian restaurant and heck of an Irish bar,” their Mudslide, made with Kahlua, Carolans Irish Cream, and ice cream, won’t disappoint.
Sat. Mar. 3: Date night! Enjoy a Jameson0glazed Salmon or a Guinness Steak & Mushroom pie at Firkin & Phoenix.
Sun. Mar. 4: Make your own Irish Soda Bread.
Mon. Mar. 5: Stock up on Irish Breakfast Tea at Rice Epicurean Market. The teas will make the perfect companion for your Irish Soda Bread.
Tues. Mar. 6: Whisk yourself to Ireland with a pint of Harp and some Bangers & Mash at The Bull & Bear Tavern.
Wed. Mar. 7: Take a mid-week walk, then treat yourself to a scoop of Irish Cream Ice Cream at Amy’s Ice Cream.
Thurs. Mar. 8: Happy hour, anyone? Check out Celtic Gardens for discounted drinks and some munchies. The pub serves some delicious fusion fare, like crispy Irish Egg Rolls stuffed with corned beef, a creamy cheese blend, cabbage and sauerkraut.
Fri. Mar. 9: Enjoy a Lamb T-Bone Loin Chop and a glass of Irish Whiskey on the rocks at Ava Kitchen & Whiskey Bar.
Sat. Mar. 10: Head to Griff’s for a day of fun. The pub will be hosting an Irish Stew, Chili, Chicken and Open Irish Dish Cook-Off all afternoon with live music throughout the day and night.
Sun. Mar. 11: Top off the weekend with pint of Guinness. The Irish-owned and -operated McElroy’s Pub claims they have the best pint in town!
Mon. Mar. 12: Stock up on breakfast for the week. Check out the Irish Porridge and other goodies at British Isles.
Tues. Mar. 13: Grab dinner at Soma Sushi. Try the Crazy Irishman, a fiery roll with salmon, tuna and avocado wrapped in green soy paper and topped with fish roe, sweet sauce, and a green onion and spicy Sriracha mayo. But be careful; if you’re trying other rolls, you may want to save this one for last. Robb Walsh warns, “it’s so hot you won’t taste anything you eat afterward.”
Wed. Mar. 14: Drink a pint at The Flying Saucer and keep the special Saucer St. Patty’s Day Glass. Starts at 7 p.m., limited supply.
Thurs. Mar. 15: Check out this month’s Spirit Roundtable at Brennan’s, where the focus is on Irish Whiskey. For only $15, you’ll learn about and taste different the kinds of whiskeys from the Emerald Isle.
Fri. Mar. 16: Grab a drink and check out a Houston-formed Irish Rock Band.The Blaggards will rocking out a Pre-St. Patty’s Day show with their signature mix of traditional Irish music and hard rock and roll at the Continental Club.
Sat. Mar. 17: Happy St. Paddy’s Day! Head to Blackfinn American Grille for some early morning Kegs & Eggs before checking out the St. Patrick’s Day Parade downtown.
Sun. Mar. 18: Keep the celebrations going. Make some Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes. With a Guinness batter, bittersweet chocolate & whiskey ganache filling, and Bailey’s frosting, these treats are sure to bring some Irish cheer to all.
Mon. Mar. 19: Head to The Black Labrador Pub for dinner. Try the Scotched Beef, tender chunks of beef marinated in a thick Guinness stock.
Tues. Mar. 20: Think while you drink. Check out Trivia at The Harp, Houston’s friendliest Irish pub. Trivia starts at 8 p.m. and is $3 per person. Winner takes home the pot!
Wed. Mar. 21: Indulge in a Smithwick’s Irish Ale and the Fisherman’s Pie, a dish filled with flaky cod and scalloped potatoes in a rich, creamy Whiskey sauce at Red Lion Pub.
Thurs. Mar. 22: Enjoy a bottle of Murphy’s Irish Stout, a chocolate malted and barley roasted import from Cork, Ireland.
Fri. Mar. 23: Treat yourself to dinner and a show at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck. Finish it off with a Bread Pudding covered in Jameson Irish Whisky sauce while enjoying the sounds of Tim O’Brien.
Sat. Mar. 24: Check out the specials at Feast. Many of the daring dishes, like the Black Pudding w/ peas and mint or the Steak and Kidney Pie, brought to Houston by the two British chefs, are also classics in Ireland.
Sun. Mar. 25: End the weekend with a leisurely lunch at Brian O’Neill’s Traditional Irish Pub. Fish & Chips are half off on Sundays.
Mon. Mar. 26: Head to your nearest Kroger to check out their selection of Murray’s Irish Cheeses. With creamy Cashel Blue and tangy Cheddar, you can make a hell of a homemade mac and cheese.
Tues. Mar. 27: Use the leftover cheddar to make a Paddy’s take on the classic French onion soup. Try this recipe for Beer & Onion Soup w/ Irish Cheddar.
Wed. Mar. 28: Need a mid-week pick me up? Try an Oatmeal Cookie Shot, made with Bailey’s, Kahlua, & Goldschläger, at Shay McElroy’s.
Thurs. Mar. 29: Grab a Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner at The Goose’s Acre Bistro & Irish Pub before playing a rousing game of Bingo starting at 9:30 p.m. Drink specials run all night long.
Fri. Mar. 30: Wash down Crispy Pig Ears and Blood Sausage Queso with one of the tap Irish beers at The Hay Merchant.
Sat. Mar. 31: Enjoy a Gingerbread Waffle and a cup of Irish Coffee at Empire Cafe. The coffee cordial is filled with Bailey’s Irish Cream, Frangelico, Kahlua, double espresso, steamed milk, and whipped cream.
