Celtic rock band Bloody Callán, which has emerged from Union County onto the World Music scene, will release its premier CD “A Pub Near You” on Feb. 26 at Molly Maguire’s Irish Pub in a four-hour show beginning at 3 p.m.
In under a year, the band has engaged a significant following of fans from upstate New York to the New Jersey shore, mixing hard-driving guitars, keyboards and percussion with accordions, bagpipes, tin whistles, banjos, mandolins and even a ukulele and triple-neck slide guitar.
Bloody Callán — “Callán” is an Irish word for noise – includes Guitarist Pat Gallagher of Neptune; Lead Guitarist Dennis McCarthy, Keyboard Player Art Mezzo and Bassist Martin Palumbo, all of Mountainside; Drummer Chuck Mott of Warren, and Piper Bob Wade of Cranford.
“A Pub Near You” compiled live recordings of the band, mainly tunes from countries settled by Celts and Gaels, such as Ireland, Scotland and Australia, with some American Gospel. The band adds a rock ‘n’ roll spin to many traditional Celtic and sea-faring tunes. Bloody Callán shows include rock classics from the Pogues, Johnny Cash, the Band and others.
Molly Maguire’s, the Clark-based center for good food, sports TV, Irish music and revelry, announced that Bloody Callán’s CD Premier party will also help launch the Saint Patrick’s Day “season” for those who celebrate the Feast Day of Ireland’s Patron Saint. Molly Maguire’s is at 1085 Central Ave. in Clark. There is no cover charge for entry.
