Budget-Friendly Irish Pub in New York Gets Exotic

Incredible Lamb Burger

Located on 121 W. 45th Street in New York, between 6th and Broadway, is Connolly’s Pub & Restaurant, a venue that puts an exotic spin on your average bar menu. Yes, you will still find your wings, quesadillas, mozzarella sticks, and even Irish favorites like a Corned Beef Reuben, Irish Smoked Salmon, Irish Beef Stew, and Bangers and Mash. However, the highlight of the menu resides in the burger section, where you will find a selection of exotic meats.

A friend and I decided to order the Incredible Lamb Burger and the Peking Duck Burger and split each. For those who don’t like fries, you can substitute for rice, a baked potato, mashed potatoes, salad, or vegetables. The food came out extremely quick, and was delightfully decorated with garnishes. Both burgers came with chipotle jack cheese, and the Peking Duck Burger, my favorite of the two, also had coleslaw, scallion mayo, and a hoisin glaze. The sweetness definitely gave it an Asian flare.

The lamb burger had herbs and spices and sweet curry sauce, making it taste a lot like a rack of lamb. The meat was thick and held the distinct flavors of effervescent spices. For those want beef but want to stray a little from the norm, there is also a Godzilla Kobe Burger, topped with spicy coleslaw, chipotle jack cheese, and spicy scallion mayo. At the other locations, you can also get a Veal & Eggplant Parmesan Burger and a Gaelic Burger made with certified Angus beef.

Appetizers range from $11-12, while burger/sandwich/pasta type fare will cost about $12-$20. If you’re craving a steak, expect to pay around $28.

For entertainment, there’s live music on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as West Coast Swing on Tuesday nights. While the downstairs is good for people who want to sit and chat, go upstairs for a more rowdy experience.
