It’s September, the month that calls to mind football, back to school traffic, tidal changes, hotter weather, a new season of Hawaii Five-0 and… St. Patrick’s Day. Huh?
Yup, Murphy’s Bar & Grill and O’Toole’s Irish Pub want to remind you that it’s almost time to bust out the shamrocks with their Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day events. Things kick off on Friday with the Merchant Street Festival. Once again, Merchant Street will be shut down to pre-game the Irish holiday with live music by the Doolin’ Rakes, bagpipes, fresh oysters and, of course, Guinness. There will also be a special “Tailgate plate,” with the proceeds going to the Hawaii Celtic Pipes and Drums organization.
Then, the next day, head over to the Celtic Room behind O’Toole’s for an Irish Whiskey Tasting at 4pm. Once you’re good and sloshed, get on the Irish Trolley Ride, beginning and ending at Anna O’Brien’s, with stops at Kelley O’Neil’s, Irish Rose Saloon and O’Toole’s.
So go ahead and bring out the Green Lantern t-shirts. Just take a quantum of solace in the fact that technically, if you choose not to participate by not dressing in emerald colors, no one can pinch you.
