Celtic fans from all over the nation will make their annual pilgrimage to Kansas City Irish Fest over Labor Day weekend, September 2-4, 2011, to enjoy a rollicking good time at what has proven to be one of the Midwest’s most popular, family-friendly music and heritage fests.
The ninth annual Kansas City Irish Fest comes to life Labor Day weekend, September 2nd-4th at Crown Center Square in Downtown Kansas City. Irish Fest celebrates the city’s deep Irish roots with seven music stages featuring traditional music and Celtic rock from international, national and locally-known bands such as Gaelic Storm, Scythian, Kila, The Killdares and hometown Celtic rockers, The Elders. Irish Fest also features a comedy stage, heritage displays and workshops, shopping, ethnic food, a massive area just for kids, and the city’s largest outdoor Catholic Mass on Sunday morning.
“We’re proud to be able to offer multitude of activities within the festival, while keeping it an incredible value,” said Barney Walsh, president of Kansas City Irish Fest. “The Westin and the Hyatt hotels located adjacent to Irish Fest make it an affordable in-town getaway, with room rates for festival goers starting at $109, and each room reservation includes two tickets to the Fest.”
New this year at the Fest is a Jameson Irish Whiskey tasting area, and a special adult admission price on Friday night for $5. Attendees will also be able to enjoy festival favorites, including The Snug, the Fest’s private area to gather and enjoy the main stage, and the Comedy Stage, featuring Irish-born comedian Elenor Tiernan and Aiden Bishop, an American living in Ireland.
Tickets prices for Irish Fest are as follows: $5 on Friday night, $10 on Saturday and Sunday in advance, and $15 on Saturday and Sunday at the gate. Snug tickets are $50 on Friday or $100 on Saturday and Sunday, and include a lot of perks, including drink tickets, private restrooms and food. Children under 12 are admitted free. Advance tickets are available at http://www.kcirishfest.com or at Kansas City metropolitan Hy-Vee stores.
Kansas City Irish Fest has been named the “Best Festival” in Kansas City and the “Best Ethnic Festival” many times over in the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association’s Visitor’s Choice Awards. Irish Fest is also the third-largest Irish festival in the nation with more than 100,000 people attending in 2010.
